Orbea Avant disc brake road bike introduced
from BikeRadar.com Road on 6/19/13 3:31 PM
Basque bike maker Orbea has launched a new endurance road bike called the Avant that works with disc brakes or rim brakes. There are seven models, ranging from Shimano 105 bikes at $2,299/£1,999 up through Shimano Ultegra Di2 at $4,699/£3,699 and the top bike with SRAM Red Hydraulic for $8,499/£8,999.Compared to the company's flagship race bike, the Orca, the Avant features more relaxed geometry with a taller head tube and a shorter top tube. Thanks to the use of two different fork rakes (43 and 53mm), Orbea was able to reduce if not eliminate toe overalp on the smallest 47cm frame size while keeping trail within 9mm through the line, all the way up to the largest 60cm size (adjusting head tube angle appropriately). Friction Facts: Bigger pulleys really are more efficient
from Cyclingnews Features on 6/19/13 11:26 AM
Pro road racers who use Berner's uniquely oversized rear derailleur cages have sworn time and again that they reduce drivetrain friction thanks to their humongous 15-tooth pulleys. Now, Jason Smith of Boulder-based lab Friction Facts has confirmed that claim with his own independent testing. Berner-equipped racers such as Fabian Cancellara , Edvald Boasson Hagen , Philippe Gilbert and others will be relieved to know that the advantage is genuinely there – but it's also pretty small at just ...

from BikeRadar.com Road on 6/19/13 10:21 AM
On the heels of Tate Labs rolling out a rear-facing Garmin handlebar mount, SRAM has announced its own QuickView MTB model. And sister company Zipp announced its new time trial/triathlon Garmin mount for aero extensions. Both mounts will be available in July with a suggested retail price of US$20/€18.The new SRAM QuickView MTB mountThe SRAM QuickView MTB mount uses a split-clamp with top access to T25 pinch bolt. It weighs a claimed 22g. By mounting on the handlebar, the rider can adjust the angle of the Garmin, which mounts securely with a quarter-turn engagement. Unlike the QuickView road mount that puts the computer in front of the bar, the QuickView MTB mount has it hovering over the stem to keep the computer better protected. The
